Beautiful background, Lara!
Hi all - if you have any questions, please send to this chat box and we will answer them all at the end during Q&A.
AI data mining, machine learning and designing real prototypes based on learning to develop applications in such as developing fire resistant building, bridges and constructions
To submit topics for the RFI: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2021RFI
related to previous questions is this something of interest to the program
Topic Ideas? - https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2021RFI
you mentioned data sharing, but not model sharing. Is this also covered in track D?
Interested in helping us review proposals? https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CAccel
Question: How many Phase I proposals are likely to be invited? That is—what is the likely funding rate for Phase I from the invited proposals?
Question: For Track D- Can you please provide specific examples for open-source software libraries and toolkits? What is the expectation for Phase I?
Can we get access to the prese
Is the slide deck sharable?
How do you view participation of national labs?
Can we get access to presentations?
can industry partners receive NSF funding?
Can we please get a copy of your slides?
You mentioned engaging closed/sensitive data platforms to make them ready for AI. Can you give some examples for likely tools/deliverables you would love to see for these?
Can industry participate with own funding or cost reimbursement contract required?
Is there a requirement on how many different types of institutions per team? And is there a guideline on the number of institutions and PIs?
can you collaborate with companies not in the US in QIS (Track C) prepropsal ?
Can there be multiple PIs (excluding co-PIs and senior personnel)?
Would something like figuring out how to de-identify digital voice files and sharing raw digital voice which inherently have identifying information to allow extensive data sharing and accelerate AI model development to identify digital voice biomarkers of a range of different disease related symptoms be appropriate?
Rui Liu, KSU, robotics&AI
Q&A: any requirements on the industrial partner? what level of delivery of the AI system is expected in phrase I, given it is only 9month? --Rui Liu, Kent State U, Robotics&AI
For Track C -- Can you give specific examples of the types of projects that would, and would not, be appropriate? For example, would a high-impact quantum sensor application for another field (biomedical, energy, etc.) be suitable, even in there was no quantum simulation or interconnects involved? Or must all track C projects “converge” the different quantum technology areas (sensing, simulation, interconnects) + have a high-impact application?
Alberto Marino Valle
For quantum sensing, what platforms are within the scope of the program? The solicitation only lists nanocrystal architectures. Is this meant to be an inclusive list?
If we have a team of interdisciplinary researchers, Who do you see as a better lead of the Convergence Accelerator proposal? An AI/ML researcher or a social science researcher who understand the problem and data.
Are you looking for institutional commitment from industry partners in preproposal, or individual practitioner commitment is sufficient?
For Track C, could you please provide specific examples about the quantum sensors and quantum architectures? What could be deliverables for Phase I?
Is international participation encouraged or discouraged?
Will NSF provide funding for industrial partners?
You mentioned 43 phase 1 proposals were funded in the first solicitation. How many preliminary proposals were received, how many were invited to submit full proposals, and how many phase 2 proposals are expected to be funded?
See: PAPPG 20-1 to help prepare your proposal: https://www.nsf.gov/pubs/policydocs/pappg20_1/index.jsp
What will be the topic and agenda for the webinar on Monday, April 20?
Is industry expected to cost share?
If Phase I will include meetings, webinars, etc. designed to trigger unexpected collaborations amongst teams, how specific and focused should a Phase I proposal be? What should be proposed to be done during Phase I? Can lab research be supported during Phase I?
The Monday April 20 webinar will be essentially similar in its agenda and scope. It’s one more opportunity.
For quantum technology, what are expected to be deliverables?
For Track D — Shall both data sharing and model sharing be addressed at the same time? What if the data cannot be shared due to privacy (e.g., EHR data)? In this case, can we focus on sharing the structure of the data and model, and the users in a broader context can apply their specific data for modeling
What are the requirements to be a PI?
How many awards for Track C and Track D, respectively?
Do we need letters of commitment from potential partners for pre-proposal?
Can an industry partner lead the project without receiving funding?
Thanks all. this was excellent. Be safe, strong and well.
Can an outcome of the project translate into commercialization during and shortly after the program?
Will a coach be assigned only after the team is awarded?
In regards to submitting workshop proposals for 2021, can you share any new NSF guidance on budgets for doing this work in a time when meetings are virtual? Is it possible to utilize workshop funds to work on the ideas that are being considered (e.g., can we fund participants to work on their own and come together to present/pitch ideas together) as travel may not be an option?
Can you elaborate on what is the relationship and mechanisms if one of the partners is a start-up? If an IP is created during this program, who owns the IP?
Should the Phase I full proposal describe what will happen in Phase II (i.e., throughout the entire program)? Even if it is expected that goals will evolve greatly during the Phase I coaching, meeting process?
Thanks everyone for the fantastic questions! Please, stay connected with us. https://www.nsf.gov/od/oia/convergence-accelerator/
Thank you very much for the Webinar!
Thank you for the presentation
Thank you very much!
